Because charges related to Extended Sick are not allowable expenses on sponsored activity, ORSP will cover charges related to Extended Sick for all faculty and staff who have a paid appointment on sponsored activity, excluding the Pool Account.
The following procedure should be followed:
For ultimate approval for the use of extended sick,
Emails
Pregnancy
All pregnancy extended sick leaves, regardless of risk, must go through Work Connections. A "normal" delivery qualifies for 6 weeks while a C-section qualifies for 8 weeks of extended sick.
The unit is responsible for providing the employee with an FMLA (Federal Medical Leave Act) letter.
Timesheets and Charges
The employee/unit will record and submit the timesheet in the normal manner indicating the extended sick exception time. ORSP monitors the extended sick time records each month and once Work Connections approval documentation is received by ORSP the charges are transferred from the project to an ORSP short code.
Faculty
Because faculty are not in the time and labor system, there is no way to monitor their use of extended sick. It is the responsibility of the faculty member and the unit to contact ORSP directly in order to determine how best to monitor the use of extended sick.
