Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine: Indirect Cost Assessments
As of July, 2010 for *Animal Care / Per Diem and **Animal Purchase thru ULAM:
- For Federal sponsored projects, there will be no additional ULAM fees, the negotiated Indirect Costs will apply.
- For Non-Federal sponsored projects, there will be no additional ULAM fees, the negotiated Indirect Costs will apply.
- For non-sponsored projects at the Medical School (funds 10000, 30000, 40000, 54010) a 20 percent Quality Assurance Fee will be assessed on all ULAM charges.
Animal care not provided by ULAM is treated as a routine direct expense and is subject to the prevailing indirect cost rate for the project. Animal purchase expenses not made through ULAM are treated as routine direct expenses and are subject to the prevailing indirect cost rate for the project.
*Animal Care / Per Diem Includes: All costs of care excluding the cost of purchasing the animals. This includes the daily per diem rate, animal treatment costs, and specialized services such as veterinary care, medical and surgical supplies, technical tests, and technical assistance. See the rate table on the ULAM website.
**Animal Purchase Includes: Purchase price of the animal plus the cost of shipping.
