Processing proposals: Signatures

A Proposal Approval Form (PAF) must be completed in eResearch Proposal Management and routed with each proposal.

The PAF should be reviewed/signed by:

The Principal Investigator is responsible for ensuring that all of the Participating Investigators listed on the PAF have agreed to the project commitments indicated for them in the proposal.

If budget commitments (release time or cost-sharing) are indicated for individuals outside of the Project Director's department/unit, signatures must also be obtained from the appropriate Chairs/Heads of the Participating Investigators.

Signatures on the PAF certify that the proposed work is consistent with University objectives, and that all faculty involved in the proposal have agreed to participate, to accept the obligations and commitments described in the proposal, and to perform the work in accordance with University and sponsor policies. These signatures also certify that federal funds have not nor will not be used to attempt to influence the granting of the award (see Restrictions on Lobbying for further information).

The signatures of Department Chairs/Unit Heads and representatives of the Dean's Offices carry the further commitment to ensure the release time required to carry out the project, to assign space and facilities as indicated on the PAF, and to provide appropriate administrative support to the project.

After review by the PI, the appropriate Department Head and Dean or Unit Director, then it is reviewed by the appropriate ORSP project representative, and the ORSP signer on behalf of the University before submission to the potential sponsor.
