Navigate - Navigating research at the University of MichiganThe offices of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) and Finance - Sponsored Programs have partnered to provide a collection of training opportunities and professional development resources for research administrators.

A number of new initiatives will come under this new program, including instructor-led courses, mentoring and other resources, and job aids.

Upcoming Courses

With our Navigate: Fundamentals Pilot (2015-2016) complete, we plan to offer three new courses in 2017, including:

Navigate: FundamentalsFundamentals: Navigating research administration at the University of Michigan

The Navigate: Fundamentals course is offered to U-M research administrators early in their research administration careers (zero to about two years of working experience). The course consists of seven full-day instructor-led sessions, with capstone projects to demonstrate success. The cost will be $400 to attend. Navigate: Advanced Budgeting I (Pilot)Navigate: Advanced Budgeting I Pilot Course

The​ Navigate: Advanced Budgeting I (Pilot) course will be the first in a series of three that will move the learner through increasingly more advanced budgeting topics. It is designed to provide immersive complex budget development and preparation training to the learner engaged in research administration.
The Navigate: Advanced Budgeting I pilot course is recommended for intermediate research administrators with two (2) or more years of on-the-job experience.  Learn more about the Navigate: Advanced Budgeting I course and how to register. Applications are due - TBD.

Navigate: Uniform Guidance Cost Principles (Pilot)
Navigate: Uniform Guidance Pilot Course

The Navigate: Uniform Guidance Cost Principles pilot course is recommended for new or seasoned research administrators involved in the pre- and post- award management of federally sponsored research projects. This course will focus directly on the Uniform Guidance (UG) Cost Principles. Learn more about the Navigate: Uniform Guidance Cost Principles course and how to register. Registration is due - TBD.

We plan to continue building a suite of training programs that will include many pre- and post-award topics. Training for the research community will be prioritized based on our extensive research and survey feedback.
