Set Up Project
Once an award is accepted by ORSP, the project must be activated in U-M’s financial and administrative systems. This includes establishing the systems for financial tracking, ensuring all compliance approvals are finalized and initiating subaward agreements. The following articles cover aspects of this Set Up Project phase.
The Award Process
An award is the result of an external sponsor agreeing to fund a research project or service which is often, but not always, issued as a grant, contract or cooperative agreement. Learn about the steps that follow the issue of an award at the University of Michigan before project work can officially begin.
Establishing a Subproject
A subproject is a formally designated project grant (P/G) that is subsidiary to a larger project within the University of Michigan. Subprojects, sometimes referred to as subaccounts or Sub P/Gs, are different from subcontracts, or SubKs, which provide funds to an external subrecipient to perform part of a project. Learn about when a subproject is needed and how to establish one.
Hardship Authorization Requests
When a project team needs to spend funds before an award is finalized, they may consider requesting a hardship authorization. Learn more about hardship authorizations and how to request one.
Compliance and Ethics
Compliance is a continuous responsibility, not a single step. The University of Michigan upholds high standards for ensuring compliance and ethics is ingrained in every stop of the sponsored project lifecycle. Learn more about Compliance and Ethics.
PEERRS Training
The Program for the Education and Evaluation of Responsible Research and Scholarship (PEERRS) offers online regulatory compliance and responsible conduct of research training for University of Michigan faculty, staff and students.
