Dr. Arthur Lupia is interim vice president for research and innovation

Distinguished University InnovatorEffective April 1, Arthur Lupia has been appointed U-M's interim vice president for research and innovation where he is responsible for fostering the excellence and integrity of research across all three campuses.

Dr. Lupia has vast experience as a researcher, administrator, and educator. His federal service spans two U.S. presidential administrations. Dr. Lupia was the recipient of U-M’s President’s Award for Public Impact. His recent roles at U-M have included associate vice president for research and working with Bold Challenges, which collaborates with research centers and institutes across all three U-M campuses to address societal challenges that intersect with equity, health, infrastructure, and sustainability.

As interim vice president, Lupia leads the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), in its mission to catalyze, support, and safeguard U-M research and scholarship activity.
