Pre-proposal and PAF routing guidance

ORSP is pleased to share a new email address that research project teams may use to contact the ORSP Pre-Award team about any proposal-related issues before a proposal approval form (PAF) arrives at ORSP.

This email address should only be used if PAF question 1.2 (the purpose for routing the PAF) is for a Proposal -- a formal funding request submitted to a sponsor in response to a competitive opportunity. If PAF question 1.2 is for a Contract or Subsequent PAF, all inquiries should be directed to the private or government team PR for that department.

Examples of when to use this email address:

• before the Proposal arrives at ORSP, since a Pre-award officer has not yet been assigned to the PAF
• to request guidance on completing PAFs for Proposals (not for Contracts or Subsequent PAFs)
• for questions on interpretation of sponsor guidelines
• to check if U-M has an institutional account in a new sponsor system

Selecting the Project Representative (PR) when routing your PAF

As ORSP's realignment progresses, please continue to select the private or government team PR assigned to your department on the PAF record. 

If PAF question 1.2 (the purpose for routing the PAF) is for a Proposal, when the PAF arrives at ORSP, a Pre-award officer will be assigned, and they can be contacted via eRPM with any requests or questions.
